Over the last couple of years, there’s been a lot of back and forth about the future of Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The last time we heard any news on the subject was when PEOPLE reported Depp was still receptive to working with the company, despite it (very publicly) cutting ties with him prior to his defamation trial against Amber Heard. Although there have been some rumblings about Disney’s willingness to move things forward without Depp, a new rumor suggests that Disney is actually willing to work with him at least one more time. According to industry insider Daniel RPK, Disney is interested in having Johnny Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film. However, RPK makes it clear that if the partnership does continue, Depp will not be the lead. Instead, Disney wants him to be a supporting character. This makes sense considering the last bit of news that RPK also revealed was that the studio was interested in having the next film follow much younger pirates. Keep in mind that because this is a rumor, we urge you to take it with a grain of salt. Considering RPK’s track record in the past, we are inclined to believe that it might be true. In any case, this is quite a major development. And it could determine how quickly the project gets made. What do you think of this news? Sound off below! SOURCE: Daniel RPK
