Whether you’ve seen her performance in The Bear or not, it’s hard not to notice how big of a star Ayo Edebiri is becoming. Less than 24 hours after making her hosting debut on NBC’s Saturday Night LIVE , news about her next big endeavor might have already leaked. According to industry insider Daniel RPK, Edebiri could be the new star of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise – or at least the star of the next film that Disney produces. In his latest Patreon post, RPK alleges that Edebiri is being eyed to be the protagonist in the previously announced Pirates film by Craig Mazin. The film will revolve around a Black female character named Anne (which RPK also says could be a codename), and a group of much younger pirates searching for a new treasure. Edebiri’s casting is far from official, and we do have to remind you that because this news has yet to be confirmed by a major trade or Disney itself, we have to urge you to take this news with a grain of salt. Still, given RPK’s incredible track record and given the Edebiri’s incredible rise to prominence in recent months we suspect it may very well be true. READ: Gillian Anderson Joins ‘Tron: Ares’ In 2020, a report surfaced that Harley Quinn herself Margot Robbie would star in a female-led reboot from  Bumblebee  writer Christina Hodson. This project is not intended to be a spinoff, but a new story, with new characters set in the  Pirates  universe. Despite rumors last year that this project was axed, franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer dispelled that, saying  “ I think that that script will come forward at a certain point. We developed two different stories for Pirates and the other one’s going forward first, so that’s what we’re working on, to try to get that one made. ” The story Bruckheimer is referring to would be the first project we talked about. We had heard when this project was in active development Disney was looking at some pretty big-name actors to star alongside Robbie, names we heard included Jason Momoa, Richard Madden, and Sebastian Stan. The franchise originated with the  Pirates of the Caribbean  theme ride attraction, which opened at Disneyland in 1967, the last Disney theme park attraction overseen by Walt Disney. The attraction can be found at four Disney theme parks. Since then, it has become a moneymaker, the five films have grossed over $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office.
