It seems one Disney restaurant that was set for permanent closure is getting a little bit of borrowed time. It was previously announced that a popular Downtown Disney restaurant would be permanently closing later this month, but now it seems that timeline has changed. This means that if you were already scrambling to make your reservation to say goodbye to Tortilla Jo’s soon, you now have a few more days to do it. An update on the pending permanent closure of Tortilla Jo’s at Downtown Disney has just come to light. The Patina Group which owns the restaurant and taqueria released an update which in part read, “The beloved restaurant will be allowing visitors one extra week to enjoy their favorite dishes with a new closure date of Sunday, April 7. The restaurant will continue to offer guest favorites and specials to commemorate their legacy at the Downtown Disney District. Reservations can be made up until April 7 and can be booked on the Disneyland app, subject to availability. Walk-in dining will be available through the final day of service.” It seems that we now have a few more days to enjoy Tortilla Jo’s than its originally anticipated closing date of March 31st, 2024. We’re not totally certain of why they changed the closure date, especially since there was a previous timeline announced before, but we’ll take it. However, there doesn’t seem to be a timeline difference for the planned closure of Tortilla Jo’s Taqueria which was previously set to remain open through April 13th, 2024. But don’t get too sad though! Fans can look forward to three NEW Mexican restaurants set to open at Downtown Disney soon. These new restaurant concepts from Chef Carlos Gaytán will be coming this spring. Paseo and Centrico will be new table service restaurants, while Tiendita will serve up some quick eats. Disney even teased a bit about what we can expect from Tiendita. Its menu is set to include esquites also known as roasted street corn salad and tacos al pastor, which include thin slices of pork and pineapple juices and are topped with roasted onions, cilantro, and salsa. For desserts, Tiendita will offer the popular arroz con leche featuring a creamy concoction of blended ride with milk that will have sweet scents of cinnamon and vanilla, and the rice will be topped with raisins inspired by Chef Carlos Gaytán’s childhood. We look forward to the new restaurant experiences opening later this spring, but it’s always a sad chapter to see something close to make room for change.
