Disney’s Wish Reaches $100 Million Milestone at Global Box Office | Disney News
12/12/2023

Disney’s latest animated film, Wish, has finally crossed the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office, after three weeks of release. The film, which celebrates Disney’s 100th anniversary, follows the story of Asha, a young girl who makes a powerful wish and teams up with a cosmic force named Star, to save her kingdom from the evil King Magnifico. Wish, which features the voices of Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, and Alan Tudyk, among others, has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, earning a 48% critics score and 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film also faced stiff competition from other releases, such as The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Napoleon, which both outperformed Wish at the box office. However, Wish has shown some signs of resilience, as it has opened in several new markets, including France, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria, where it has ranked among the top films. The film is also expected to benefit from the upcoming holiday season, as it appeals to families and children. Additionally, Wish has yet to premiere in some major markets, such as Italy, Australia, Japan, Korea, and Brazil, which could boost its earnings further. Wish, which has a reported budget of $175 million to $200 million, is still far from breaking even, but it has achieved an important milestone for Disney, as it is the first original animated film to cross $100 million at the global box office since 2017’s Coco. The film also showcases Disney’s musical and storytelling prowess, with original songs by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice, and a screenplay by Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore. Wish is directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, and produced by Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes. The film is now playing in theaters worldwide.
