Disney news, rumors, and round up – March 2024
04/22/2024

February may have been a short month, but we’ve had a lot of Disney news lately! While there haven’t been any massive announcements of new attractions or things like that, there have been a lot of significant smaller things going on. So let’s get to it! Disney news Disney news
1900 Park Faire at the Grand Floridian resort will finally reopen on April 10th – with a new menu and new characters (they’ll still have the famous strawberry soup, though!). Mando and Grogu will hit the big screen at some point in the next few years, with filming beginning this year. Another major film was announced, and this one will premiere this year (November 27, 2024) – Moana 2. On June 14th we’ll see Inside Out 2 hitting theaters, and they’ve just released the official trailer. Over on Disney+, you’ll be able to watch Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour starting on March 15th. More Disney+ news! The Percy Jackson series was a success, and Percy Jackson season 2 will be in the works. We may not have an opening date for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World yet, but they did announce it will be “summer 2024.” That could be anywhere from Memorial Day weekend to mid-September, so we’ll see! Disneyland California Adventure’s Food and Wine festival has begun, and you can take a look at their menu offerings here! Over in Florida you can take a look at the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival Food Booth menus too. Disney has made a few updates to their app when it comes to dining reservations. You’ll now be able to see ALL available time slots at a restaurant (not just a select few) when you search. You’ll also be able to search a restaurant’s availability across multiple days at once. Work is coming along on Disney’s newest private island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, and we’ve gotten another look at things. If you book a Disney World package for 2025, you get an extra perk – free admission to a water park on your arrival day! It’s a great alternative if you don’t want to use a park day since you won’t have a full day, but still want something to do. Disney rumors Disney rumors
Genie+ // We all know changes to Genie+ and Lightning Lanes will be coming (Bob Iger did announce that), but exactly what and when remains to be seen. Of course, that doesn’t stop Disney fans from speculating! A few common theories and rumors: ~ we’ll be able to book lightning lanes ahead of time (similar to the old fastpass+ system), but this won’t happen until the slower season – maybe August? ~Disney resort guests will get an early advantage for booking those pre-lightning lanes ~when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens, it will become an individual Lightning Lane (ILL) and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will become part of the regular Genie+ offerings ~The cost will go up when all of the above happens (is this even really a rumor, or can we be pretty confident about this??) Encanto // Disney has announced a casting call looking for a host for a new live show/event celebrating Encanto. Will it be at Epcot as part of some sort of new summer festival? Maybe headed to Animal Kingdom to get people excited for the Encanto area that is most likely coming? Or something at Magic Kingdom, where Mirabel’s meet and greet is? Whatever it is, we should be seeing something fun most likely this summer! Disney Springs // Disney has filed a permit to do something with the now-empty building that housed the NBA Experience (formerly Disney Quest). What might they put in there? Tom from Disney Tourist Blog had a few ideas, but the ones I like best are a bigger VOID VR experience (we did the Star Wars one and it was really cool!), Escape Rooms (Universal’s gots some now), a museum of Disney history, or even the return of The Adventurer’s Club. This last one actually wouldn’t surprise me, as there’s a powerful fanbase and I think it has a lot of potential to attract new fans, too. Some of my own ideas – franchise it to something like iFly for indoor skydiving, an immersive dinner experience (along the lines of a murder mystery dinner but not necessarily a mystery – perhaps something Star Wars?), or a multi-purpose complex with lots of different activities available so Disney could capitalize on whatever is most popular at the time. With 5 levels at Disney Quest you could have a floor for different things like an Escape Room, laser tag, a version of a “sip and paint,” indoor mini golf, and more (axe throwing with Gaston? seems like the type of thing he’d do). Then when one of these is no longer popular they can swap it out for whatever the latest thing is. Other Disney blogs Other Disney blogs
If you happen to be at Disney World on March 14th, Melanie at Polka Dots and Pixie Dust has a guide to where to get the best pies (in honor of Pi Day, of course! Though you can also get them any other day, too). Shannon over at WDW Prep School has her guide to the best snacks you can get with the Disney dining plan. Tony’s Town Square might not have the best reputation, but Jenn at Fairest Run of All gives her thoughts on the dinner we shared together. And no – although spaghetti and meatballs were involved, we did not share them Lady and the Tramp style. Over on The Disney Tourist Blog , Tom gives us his review of the new Pixar Place Hotel at Disneyland. Disney Cruise Line Blog has recently updated their DCL food and drink recipe collection with lots of new options. Sometimes you just need to know where the nearest Mickey pretzel is! If you’re in Disneyland, Mindy from This Fairy Tale Life has you covered with her list.
