Here’s your daily dose of cuteness from Animal Kingdom for you!
This year, Animal Kingdom celebrated its 25th birthday with special character sightings, snacks, and more. We recently told you about a new baby aardvark and we just learned there’s another new addition to the Animal Kingdom family!
One of the best things about Disney World, in our opinion, is that there are so many options with things to do and see. Sometimes, we feel like getting back to experience nature and there’s no better way to do that than to head on over to Animal Kingdom. Let’s go take a stroll and meet one of their newest additions to the family!
Disney recently welcomed Hazelnut, a baby aardvark, to the park and now they are celebrating a momma red river hog named Daisy who gave birth to a healthy and spunky little piglet this past month.
Last month, mom Daisy gave birth to a healthy male piglet and both are now bonding backstage. The little piglet is the eighth member to join the red river hog family or “sounder.” Animal moms like Daisy teach their young the skills and behaviors needed to thrive as an adult red river hog. However, all members of the family are pitching in to teach the playful piglet how to forage and wallow.
A team of animal care experts has kept an eye on the little piglet since he was in the womb. Daisy was able to enter a specialized crate during her pregnancy to allow veterinarians to conduct ultrasounds and monitor her piglet’s health and development during her four-month gestation period.
On Mother’s Day, Daisy is expected to spend time relaxing in a mud bath, which is an essential natural behavior for red river hogs. The coat of mud that sticks to their fur provides a shield against the sun and protects them from insects.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to catch this pair wallowing around in the mud on Pembe Savanna in Animal Kingdom soon.
We’re so happy to hear the mom and baby are doing well. If you’re heading to Animal Kingdom soon, keep an eye out for him and his mom, and stay tuned to AllEars to see all of the fun in Animal Kingdom as the park continues its anniversary celebrations!
