If you’ve been to Disneyland in the last month, you know the Red Rose Cup from the Red Rose Tavern has been a success. It is the perfect cup to Instagram (which EVERYONE has been doing so) and it’s definitely a Disney move. But, there have been lots of dilemmas with this “Magical” cup. So let’s start with the cons.
This cup, although beautiful, has had many problems from day 1. First, it’s a very flimsy plastic, and easily cracks. They didn’t put much thought into the fact that many little kids would love to have this little LED Beauty, and if anyone knows kids, they are quite clumsy. A couple drops on a hardwood floor or pavement and you no longer have a cup. This is really disheartening, especially since Disney is known for their perfect care for the merchandise they mass produce.
This brings me to discuss the deceiving Rose in the middle of the cup. Although it may seem like such a smart idea, they didn’t take into consideration that with a flimsy plastic, the screw attached to the bottom of the cup easily breaks off. Even when delicately unscrewing the Rose from the cup, the plastic screw just pops off. Due to the fact that this is a DRINKING CUP, you can’t just glue it back on. I’ve had several people I know get a cup and literally 20 minutes later the Rose just breaks off.
Now let’s talk about the LED light at the top. The button is so poorly placed, that the plastic piece around it pops off. The button gets dislodged, and now you no longer have an LED light flashing at a million miles per hour. Of course, for a little child, the light is the best part as they are mesmerized by any types of loud, bold flashing. How disappointing must that be for them if even the light doesn’t work? Shame on you, Disney.
Last but not least, this cup is 15 dollars. That’s right, ONE CUP = 15 DOLLARS. Not to mention all of the people who started buying 20 of them at a time to sell them on eBay for 40 dollars. Since they are and were so hard to come by, people were buying them as soon as they saw one go by. This flimsy plastic mess is more expensive than a sturdy Dollar Store tumblr. No joke, it would cost less to make your own rose cup with a little plastic rose and a cheap tumblr, and pretty sure it would last longer. Why does Disney try to suck every penny out of us, and why does it work EVERY TIME? We’re eating too much of the Dole Whip guys.
Now that we have bashed the Red Rose cup, let’s praise it in the ways that it hasn’t failed people around the globe and list the Pros. The cup is very cute, and it’s not a bad concept. Having a cup that you can fill up while there’s a rose in the middle is actually really cute. Adding the LED light (When on a slower setting) with some cute pink lemonade or a neon drink looks cool. Disney doesn’t fail at being cute, so good job on your imagination.
Another positive about this cute little disaster is the fact that it’s unique. I don’t think I’ve seen any other cup like it. Although I know some porcelain mugs have the object at the bottom, I have never seen a plastic cup mimic this. Again, bravo Disney. 👏🏼
What do you guys think about the Red Rose cup? Have you had any negative experiences yet? Has the stem fallen off?
